Rocket's Red Glare

Space fascinated the United States and the rest of the world in the middle of the twentieth century. With every earthly boundary seemingly pushed to its limits, scientists, innovators, politicians, and average citizens turned their focus upward and outside of our atmosphere and sought to explore and lay claim to the last frontier of space. Robert S. Kerr (1896-1963), a powerful senator from Oklahoma, did everything in his power to make certain Americans would win the quickly developing space race. This exhibit features materials from Kerr's papers related to his passion and dedication to space exploration.
